A slow build to a shocking discovery, this book will have you wondering what you would do!!! See my review here!

What an incredible debut novel this is for Catherine Steadman! While the book starts with a bang, the next 30% is a slow build as you get to know the characters. Then at about 35% the story takes a turn and readers will find themselves holding on for the ride, unsure of where they’ll end up!!! I was unsure about this book at first, but I have to say I

Well HOT damn this book was just... brilliant! Full disclosure I was running behind on my reviews so I purchased this on audio on release day and I was even a little hesitant because I saw the author was narrating.... not always a good thing, but I had no idea that Catherine Steadman is an actress.... and after finishing this book I now know she is also a fantastic author and audiobook narrator!!! Simply amazing! Seriously if I could I would give her narration six st

Step back from the flame, honey.

You're gonna get burned.

Mark and Erin are on a stellar honeymoon in Bora Bora. Sun, sea, and each other. She's a documentary film producer and he's a successful investment banker. No worries. Or so it seems until they find something floating in the water. The depth of that ocean pales in comparison to the depth of problems that are gonna follow this couple home like stink on the back of a wayward skunk.

How deep is deep enough?

Erin films documentaries, and her new husband, Mark, is an investment banker. They fly to the honeymoon of a lifetime to Bora Bora. Everything is tropical and picture-perfect, until they find something in the water while scuba diving. Dun dun dun.

Erin and Mark have to decide if they will tell the truth or keep a secret. Either way, danger potentially awaits...

This book starts out with a bombshell when Erin and Mark find something in the water.

This is a thriller about a couple who find themselves in financial distress weeks before their wedding and the decisions they make afterwards will have life-changing consequences.

Erin is a documentary filmmaker and Mark is a banker who loses his job days before the big day. They live in a very nice home and decide to go through with their planned wedding as well as the honeymoon despite the fact that they could make wiser financial decisions under the circumstances.

I had a really hard time rating this one.... do you ever have books where you get so frustrated with the characters that you just want to scream? Well.. this is definitely one where I was super frustrated and wanted to throw my kindle at times lol.

Erin and Mark are a newly married couple that don't have the best honest relationship. I noticed that Erin and Mark both have been keeping secrets from one another. Erin is trusting Mark a little more then she should despite all the red flags. But, Er

Something In The Water by Catherine Steadman is a thriller that certainly had an opening that should grab readers right away, the main character digging a grave. After finding out that there would be a need for a grave readers jump back in time to find out just what led to that event.

Erin and Mark seem to be very much in love and excited to be planning their wedding and honeymoon. Erin is a budding filmmaker working on a documentary in which she’s interviewing criminals and Mark a successful inv

This is a refreshing take on the psychological thriller trope. The beginning is more than just a little intriguing. How long does it actually take to bury a body? From there the build and character development slow down significantly until it picks up about midway. Ethics come into question, criminal behavior is more exhausting than one might imagine and you may not know another as well as you think you do. Satisfying but not necessarily harrowing.

Erin and Mark have just married. They are so in love and life seems to be headed in a glorious way. White lace and promises mark their future or do they? Mark suddenly loses his job, but working together they know they can surmount this obstacle. They cancel some wedding plans, downsize their ceremony, but do head off to Bora Bora for their heavenly honeymoon. While diving they discover a plane that had crashed into the water, a

I LOVED this. It was so addictive and I loved how the main character, Erin, just seemed actually to have a death wish the entire time.

When she and her husband discover "something in the water" while they are on their honeymoon, lots of decisions lie ahead about what they should do about it. What follows is a twisty adventure that is a whole lot of fun and does actually beg the question "what would YOU do?" Well I asked myself this but certainly I don't think I'd have gone down exactly the path t

Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave? Wonder no longer. It takes an age. However long you think it takes, double that.

And with an opening sentence like that, I was in. I cannot deny that the suspense build was good here and certainly had me glued to the pages in front of me. I was desperate to know what it is this passionately in love couple found in the water on their honeymoon in Bora Bora that would set them on this course of destruction. The issue is: the payoff of that
Something in the Water comes out June 5, 2018 and it is going to be a sure-fire hit for those looking for a beach read this summer. Erin and Mark are newly married and are wild for each other. Erin works as a filmmaker; seeking out information through the crime doc genre, while Mark is a stereotypical banker (don't tell Erin I said that!)—handsome, smart, and calculating. The duo is very passionate (to say the least) and choose to visit Bora Bora for their honeymoon. As the twosome are vacatio ...more

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman is her debut novel and she does such an amazing job, one would never know! It started off a little slow and I questioned whether or not to keep going. But so glad i did!! She was getting us ready for what was about to happen!! Bora Bora sounds amazing! A place I want to visit! At 30%, I could not put the book down. Holy cow! Have you ever read a book where you feel like yelling at the main character "what are you doing?!," "you are sooo going to get caught!!," or "noooo, don't do that!!!"? Catherine Steadman's Something In The Water felt a bit like watching a disaster unfold before my eyes.

The lead character, Erin, is a newlywed who trusts her husband Mark more than she should. There are seriously SO many red flags about him from day one, yet Erin disregards them. This is because she, too, hides

Erin, a newly engaged documentary filmmaker is our protagonist, and this novel reads like it is her CONFESSION.

“I’m not a bad person. Or maybe I Am. Maybe You Should decide? But, I should definitely explain. And to explain I need to go back. Back to that anniversary morning, three months ago.”

And, so she does.

Telling us, about how this all started and telling us about that “Sliding door moment” when she and her new husband, Mark, now on their honeymoon in Bora Bora must decide which decision to

Steadman has a knack for building suspense beginning with her very first sentence that asks the reader “Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave?” Erin is digging a grave with her husband’s body lying beside her. “I’m not a bad person. Or maybe I am. Maybe you should decide,” she says. BAM, you got my attention! This was just the beginning of a very good read and I devoured it in two days. Thanks to Ballantine Books for an early release copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

According to Alexa, you can dig the average sized grave in about 2 hours. Now you don't need to read this book. You're welcome!

Quite seriously, this was an unsuccessful book for me.

I started reading it. Stopped a few pages in, thoroughly bored. Started again. Made it another chapter or two. Stopped, thoroughly bored. Girding my loins, I picked it up again. This time I made it to within 60 pages of the end. Stopped. Forced myself to contin

When you start a book with a woman explains the minutiae of burying a body in the woods, while burying the body in the woods, you setting the bar pretty high. Of course you sort of have to nowadays, these female authored female driven thrillers are entirely too prevalent in the market to not require something really attention grabbing to stand out. So from the get go Steadman does well. Then we travel back in time, surprisingly only a few months, to witness how a happy young couple’s life goes f ...more

3.5 stars rounding up to 4.0 because of the thrilling first 3/4 of the book. Erin is burying her husband Mark, I mean literally burying her husband in the dirt in the opening of this book. The rest of the book leads us to just how exactly that happened. We are given a masterful story by Catherine Steadman that in my opinion with the last few chapters unravels a bit. There are too many loose ends and questions unanswered in my mind by the time I get to the end. At that point, I had really lost my ...more

While spending their honeymoon in Bora Bora, newlyweds Erin and Mark Roberts make a gruesome discovery which threatens to forever change their lives and, in fact, may even result in them losing their lives.

Upon their return to London, they face some serious decisions. Are they both in agreement? Tension escalates with each passing day until the final startling conclusion.

This debut novel is suspenseful and fast paced with an unexpected ending. However, the main characters are not very likable.

I was excited to read this after seeing the great reviews. I have been very dissapointed with thrillers lately and this was another one to add to the growing list.

I felt no connection with Erin and her husband. She is the narrator and talks directly to the reader and the whole novel is her inner thoughts. Not much action. I skipped through large info dumps that didn't add anything to the plot. The plot has been done a million times in lifetime movies and other thrillers. When one lover turns on
