If you've ever read Francine Rivers' Mark of the Lion trilogy and have ever wanted to read something else like it, this book has the same feel without all the gladiator games. Ancient Corinth/Athens, underhanded Romans, the early church. Skilled writing.

Redemption and Restoration There is a reason that Tessa Afshar is one of my favorite Christian authors. She pens Biblical fiction with consummate skill and keen insight, and “Thief of Corinth” is no exception. The ancient world of first-century Corinth springs to vivid life and offers readers a tour of the culture and people residing there. Despite this antiquated setting, Afshar draws many parallels between Corinth and the modern world. The issue of women’s rights—or acute lack thereof—features ...more

Thief of Corinth is set in the New Testament and Tessa will transport you back to those days. When reading you will forget you are in the 21st century and be back in Biblical days. You will smell the rich scent (yep good and bad), feel the heat, taste the sand, find yourself fleeing the dangers of our young heroine. The research is rich in history, scenery and even though the story isn't part of the Bible it is set in those times and the plot is rich in plot, characters and I had a hard time set ...more

...true love is patient and kind...We fail. We fail because we have never tasted of such love. We do not know how to receive it, how to give it. It requires a power beyond our own.

Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar is a book that gifted me with entertainment, a message to ponder, and enough tension to keep my attention all the way through. Set in the ancient city of Corinth, Afshar delighted me with witty dialogue, multi-faceted characters, and a sense of adventure. Having read her previous books, I knew I was in for a treat with this one. And while I felt this book carried a more lighthearted tone that the previous ones, I was in no way short changed. In fact, I think the ...more

I loved the adventure in this story. Airadne is so upset with way things are going living with her mother and grandfather she runs away to find her father. The adventures begin when Airadne finds out the secret of her father and why her mother and father are no longer together. Her father she finds out is a thief. Now some light is coming to why her mother is not with her father anymore. Kind of a Robin Hood story. Lot's of adventure and great characters.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I have read by Tessa Afshar, but Thief of Corinth is my new favorite! Reading this book was like stepping back in time to first-century Corinth, accompanied by Ariadne, a bold young woman who had run away from Athens to her father’s home there.
Set in a time when Christianity was new, this beautifully written story is full of adventure, rich in historical detail, and full of plot twists that made it hard to put down. I especially loved how the Apostle Paul was

Tessa Afshar never fails this devoted reader! I devoured Thief of Corinth. The spunky, clever, bright, though-so-damaged-by-life heroine had my heart from page one. Ms. Afshar writes a heroine in which we can all see ourselves, if even just a little. Ariadne leads a life of grand adventure which is actually forced upon her due to circumstances beyond her control. She doesn’t shirk or run from disaster, but bravely attempts to forge from her disasters a stronger, more powerful woman. In the midst ...more

Tessa Afshar has done it again! Thief of Corinth was a compelling story of a young girl, Ariadne who grew up in ancient Corinth and Greece. We follow her story to see the events that brought her parents to divorce and the consequences of that event. Ariadne seeks the approval of her mother and attempts to do what she thinks best for her father. She seeks the attention of her peers and of one particular young man. Through Ariadne’s eyes, we learn a great deal about the human spirit and the conseq ...more

Thief of Corinth is Tessa Afshar’s newest release. The author sure knows how to bring a reader back in time. The historical details were quite vivid and believable. I was drawn into the characters’ lives. I enjoyed Ariadne’s story. I found it to be exciting, adventurous, suspenseful, and inspirational. I, especially, enjoyed when Paul was introduced.

I give Thief of Corinth a well deserved 5 plus stars and highly recommend it. Such a powerful story.

What I love about Tessa Afshar’s books is that her characters are so well developed and seem almost real to me. I love how she helps you feel their emotions and hear their thoughts. The Thief of Corinth is set in the days of early church history which I am fascinated with. I’d love more stories written in this time period. The story centers around Ariadne and her broken, hurting family. We follow as she learns more about her family’s story and the secrets that have torn them apart. She begins to ...more

Review to come closer to release date. All I can say is that if you've read Tessa's previous novels you need to pick this one up. Or if you like Biblical fiction this one is a winning. Every time I read one of Tessa's books it like a part of the story is something that I am going through at that time and it encourages me in that season as well as reminding me to pick up my Bible more.

I cannot begin to say how wonderful I thought this book was! I loved everything! Tessa Afshar is a wonderful writer and historian, fleshing out details of ancient life and bringing it to life! Ancient medical practices and foods and clothing and even bathroom/toiletry habits are all woven into the story – as well as a little suspense and romance and Christian teaching. I loved how she gave the apostle Paul his own words but in the story context with a loving tone.

While I think it was more me than the book, I had a little bit of a hard time getting into this one. I knew Tessa Afshar was amazing, though, after meeting her in person and reading her first book, Pearl in the Sand. So I took a break in the middle and then binge-read the last 200 pages on vacation. I love how this one turned out!

I enjoyed that this book was one meant to appeal to non-Christians as well as Christians. That gave room for the characters to do things their own way for a while (most

Tessa Afshar is tied with Laura Hillenbrand for my favorite author, so I fully expected to like her newest book Thief of Corinth. Additionally, I knew that I would walk away with practical insight concerning spiritual matters. However, seeing as Ariadne is a fictional character renown for her athleticism and secretly fancies herself Robin Hood 1.0, I knew that I could not connect with her like I did Ruth in In the Field of Grace and Rahab in Pearl in the Sand. However, doesn’t true literature ca ...more

This book is quiet a bit different from Tessa's other novels. Though it is set in the time of the New Testament and includes a number Biblical characters, it is not based on Biblical events. Even A Harvest of Rubies' story line came about because of Israel's exile and lead to the second novel, which featured the first wave of returning Jews to Israel. However, Thief of Corinth does still hold a scriptural message: that only God is love and we can only hope to truly love others when we do so out ...more

The Thief of Corinth has proven to be yet another gem from Tessa Afshar! She successfully builds a suspenseful plot as Ariadne seeks to save her family's legacy and her father's reputation even when her misguided actions put herself and those she loves in danger. There are many sub-plots throughout the story, one of the central ones being Ariadne's growing affection for Justus, her neighbor and brother's best friend from childhood. Afshar develops their relationship slowly that burns within by t ...more

Thief of Corinth, by Tessa Afshar, is a compelling story of a courageous young girl who yearns to be loved and accepted. (And don't we all?) Although other novels of this author are based on true Biblical stories, this book is a fictional story set in first-century Corinth and readers will see several real historical figures, such as the Apostle Paul, and Priscilla and Acquilla. Ariadne's home life is full of seemingly irreparable strained family dynamics and numerous secrets. She has been wound ...more

I loved this book. This story is at times both light-hearted and suspenseful. Tessa Afshar has written an exciting and inspiring book with many different ingredients that blend together to make a beautiful story: Betrayal, selfishness, love, redemption, faith, forgiveness, and hope. The family dynamics in this book cover all of those aspects. Ms. Afshar has done an excellent job of making each main character seem complex and each fits perfectly in their place. The setting of the city of Corinth ...more

I enjoy books that also teach me about history or society, while I am reading for pleasure. Thief of Corinth certainly fulfills both goals. Neighbors Dionysius, Justus, Theodotus, and Ariadne grew up together as family and neighbors, but with quite different personalities, abilities, interests, and goals. They are bi-lingual, speaking both Greek and Latin because they live in Corinth, a major business city during the early Roman Empire.
Thief of Corinth surprised me at each plot twist. Although

I loved this very different book of fiction. This is a very interesting time period. I have never read a book based in Corinth and enjoyed learning a bit about it. I loved the character of Ariadne and how strong she is. It had to be hard to choose to do something different than most other women. I enjoyed her journey of discovery along with all of her friends. Tessa Afshar's Thief of Corinth is a rich treat. Thought provoking, action-packed, and filled with memorable, well fleshed out characters, Thief of Corinth delivers a fascinating tale of an athletic woman once suppressed by society.
Adrianne flees a brutal engagement (and I do mean brutal) and escapes with her adopted brother/friend Theo to reconnect with a long-lost father, Galenos. There, she discovers her aging father has a terrible secret. He is the Thief of Corinth and he can no longer keep
